Hydrogeological spatial modelling: A comparison between frequentist and Bayesian statistics

چکیده

Abstract Traditional and modern spatial prediction techniques are applied in the analysis of water quality, evidencing a new approach that allows modeling hydrogeological system central area Boyacá, Colombia. The objective is to determine quality status groundwater for human consumption. In process, predictions were made based on frequentist methods (kriging, cokriging) Bayesian (R-INLA stochastic partial differential equation) as an alternative Markov chain Monte Carlo require large computational cost. From application these methods, comparison by statistical tests goodness adjustment predictions. Our interest here implementation future more robust, economic scientific solutions, particularly data, proper management resources. Finally, vulnerability aquifers analyzed with DRASTIC method, which takes into account surrounding media through variables depth (D), net recharge (R), type aquifer (A), soil (S), topography (T), impact vadose zone (I) hydraulic conductivity (C).

Frequentist and Bayesian Statistics: a Critique

There are two broad approaches to formal statistical inference taken as concerned with the development of methods for analysing noisy empirical data and in particular as the attaching of measures of uncertainty to conclusions. The object of this paper is to summarize what is involved. The issue is this. We have data represented collectively by y and taken to be the observed value of a vector ra...

A Decision between Bayesian and Frequentist Upper Limit in Analyzing Continuous Gravitational Waves

Given the sensitivity of current ground-based Gravitational Wave (GW) detectors, any continuous-wave signal we can realistically expect will be at a level or below the background noise. Hence, any data analysis of detector data will need to rely on statistical techniques to separate the signal from the noise. While with the current sensitivity of our detectors we do not expect to detect any tru...

An Integrated Mathematical Statistics Primer: Objective Bayesian Construction, Frequentist Evaluation

Bayesian Statistics is typically taught, if at all, separately from conventional frequentist methods. It is becoming clear, however, that the emergence of powerful objective Bayesian methods (where the result, as in frequentist statistics, only depends on the assumed model and the observed data) provides a new unifying perspective on most established methods, and may be used in situations (e.g....

Comparison of Estimates Using Record Statistics from Lomax Model: Bayesian and Non Bayesian Approaches

This paper address the problem of Bayesian estimation of the parameters, reliability and hazard function in the context of record statistics values from the two-parameter Lomax distribution. The ML and the Bayes estimates based on records are derived for the two unknown parameters and the survival time parameters, reliability and hazard functions. The Bayes estimates are obtained based on conju...
